400 Dead, 1400 Missing in Catastrophic Flood in Nepal

Portland, Aug 27 (Nepal Oregon News): The Nepali community in Oregon, USA - just like all Nepalese inside and outside Nepal - is shocked  and heart-broken by the news of catastrophic floods in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.

At least 400 people have been confirmed dead and more than 1400 remain missing after an apocalyptic flash flood  and mudslide in Nepal's Bhote Koshi - Trishuli river basin devastated the Himalayan border region between Nepal and Tibet.

Meanwhile, the community and religious leaders of Nepali Association of Oregon (NAO),  Nritya Mandala Mahavihara - the only Newar Buddhist monastery in USA, NRNA - Oregon State Chapter and Nepa Chhen, a Nepali nonprofit in Portland have called on the Nepali diaspora community in Oregon to pray for Nepal at this moment of sorrow and mobilize fund raising for ongoing rescue operations.

According to 'The Rising Nepal', "The flood has caused extensive damage in Rasuwa, particularly in the Timure and Syafrubesi areas. It has washed away settlements, roads and bridges and damaged hydropower infrastructures including the Chilime Hydropower Project."

As 'The Kathmandu Post' reported:"With the scale of destruction still being assessed, aid groups say cash donations - rather than physical goods - are the most effective way for the public to help right now, since local organizations can use funds to procure and transport supplies as needs on the ground shift."
